Drug Helps Relieve Asthma in Young People
According to the National Institutes of health, adding a drug called omalizumab to asthma treatment nearly eliminated seasonal surges in asthma attacks among young city dwellers.

FDA Removes Unapproved Drugs from the Market
The Food and Drug Administration is removing a wide range of unapproved prescription cough, cold, and allergy drugs from the market because they have not been evaluated by the FDA for safety, effectiveness, and quality.

Asthmatics More Likely To Have a History of Smoking
A new study finds adults with asthma are 1.26 times more likely to have a history of smoking and about twice as likely to have been dependent on nicotine at some point in their lives. About half of those who smoked reported smoking before they knew they had asthma.

Heartburn Drugs for Asthma Called into Question
Heartburn drugs may not do asthma patients much good, report Boston investigators. Their review of previous studies on the topic showed that while people on the drugs did have an increase in airway capacity, it was so small that people didn't feel any better.

Nasal Congestion May Be Linked to Severe Asthma
Swedish researchers who looked at factors related to severe asthma find people with the condition are significantly more likely to suffer from blocked or runny noses. They believe parts of the immune system involved in chronic nasal symptoms may be linked to asthma severity, and that treating nasal symptoms might help alleviate severe asthma.
